MCD to start fogging and spraying larvicide to prevent dengue

Considering the large number of dengue cases witnessed in the city last year, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) plans to start fogging and spraying of larvicide as a precautionary measure from next week. The fogging and spraying process will be initially carried out only in the vulnerable areas of the city, the chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna said. He said that the MCD has a list of the vulnerable areas which were hit badly by dengue in recent years. The corporation will also work on factors that trigger the spread of dengue in these areas and will work further accordingly.

The MCD spends crores of rupees every year on the anti-dengue campaign under which the sanitation team carries out regular fogging and spraying of larvicide across the city. Khanna informed that once the MCD starts regular fogging and spraying of larvicide across the city, it costs about Rs 1.29 lakh daily. He said that the sanitation team will also start a campaign to raise awareness among locals about dengue. “There are several myths regarding dengue disease and we want people to know facts about it to make them capable of taking preventive measures. It does not matter how much effort MCD teams are putting in if people are not taking steps to prevent it. The involvement of every person or family is important as negligence in one house can cause suffering to several families across the city,” Khanna said.

After properly starting the anti- dengue campaign, the MCD will also start the process of imposing penalties if a residential or non residential building is found to be a breeding ground of dengue, he added.
