In a tragic incident which happened even before the official announcement of the advent of monsoon in the State, four members of a family, including two children and a woman, were killed late Thursday night at the revenue village Odata under Mori tehsil when the walls of their house collapsed in the wake of torrential rain that lashed the area. They were sleeping when the tragedy occurred at around 2 AM.
Neighbours rushed to the spot on hearing the deafening sound with which the house collapsed. The deceased were identified as Ghulam Hussain (26), his wife Rukma Khatun (23), son Abid (3) and their 10-month-old daughter Salma. They were all buried under the debris.
As soon as the information was received, a rescue team from SDRF was rushed. The tehsildar, Mori and revenue sub- inspector inspected the operation which was carried out in the night itself.
Local villagers said that as it has been raining continuously, many of the kutcha houses of the village are facing danger.
