Virasat festival to begin in Doon today

The Rural Entrepreneurship for Art and Cultural Heritage (REACH) organisation will be organising the Virasat festival at Dr BR Ambedkar Stadium from October 27 to November 10. Addressing the media here on Thursday, founder and general secretary of REACH, RK Singh said that the annual cultural festival Virasat will commence on Friday. The festival also provides a platform for artisans and craftsmen to showcase their traditional and classical art forms, thereby preserving India’s rich cultural heritage. Further, Singh emphasised that the festival will also contribute to the promotion of Uttarakhand’s culture and folk art.

Senior REACH member Lokesh Ohri said, “The 15-day programme will consist of morning and afternoon sessions at Virasat Sadhna. In addition, there will be quizzes and treasure hunt activities specifically arranged for the children. Moreover, there will be talks devoted to exploring music and literature, as an integral part of the Virasat festival this year.”

He added that this year’s festival will also showcase folk dance performances from various States. Further, performances by noted musicians will also be part of the festival. Three-time Grammy award winning Indian musician Ricky Cage, Kaushiki Chakraborty, the Wadalis, Sanjeev Abhayankar, Pandit Sajan Mishra, Radhika Chopra and others will be rendering performances during Virasat.
