Villagers vow to boycott election

Tuesday, 12 March 2024 | PNS | UTTARKASHI

In latest news from Uttarakhand, as the election process is gaining momentum with the schedule expected to be announced any day, the villagers of Joshiyada Kaleshwar Mohalla Ward No 8 of Uttarkashi have come forward with their vow to stay away from election. They cite the refusal of the administration and the political parties to address their long-pending problems as the reason for their collective decision to boycott the upcoming election.  They say that their villages have been vegetating developmentally in the absence of the government-initiated road and other projects.

“There is no government-financed development works here and the works so far done are qualitatively below par,” said an aggrieved villager Vijay Raj Singh Rawat.  Another villager Avtar Singh Parmar said that water seeps through their walls whenever it rains. “Grappling with this problem for years, we requested the administration to address it. Though nine DMs have changed, our plight remains the same,” he added.

Venting anger against the politicians, they said that they come here canvassing for votes during electioneering. After the election was over, they turned their backs on them, ignoring them and letting their plight worsen with every election.
