32 % drop in vaccination number in the first fortnight of June as compared to the first fortnight of April

In what can be termed as a setback in the fight against the contagion of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) the vaccination numbers in Uttarakhand have declined substantially in the month of June. During the period April 1 to 15, a total of 7,32,261 people were vaccinated while two months later in the month of June only 4,96,720 people were vaccinated between June 1- 15. This shows that a massive 32 percent drop has occurred in the vaccination number in the first fortnight of June as compared to the similar period in April. In fact the data shows that the vaccine numbers have continued to decline from April. In the first fortnight of May 5,62,421 people were vaccinated and this number further declined in the month of June. The vaccination against Covid-19 started in Uttarakhand on January 16. In the month of January 31,228 health workers were vaccinated. In the month of February 1,31,080 people were vaccinated. The drive gathered momentum in March when 5,14,516 people were vaccinated and it further increased to 13,38,530 in the month of April. With the government giving a go ahead for vaccination of 18 to 45 year age group people in the month of May and simultaneous shortage of the vaccines, the drive was adversely affected . In the month of May only 8,33,149 people were vaccinated in the state.

Health expert and founder of Social Development for Communities Foundation (SDC), Anoop Nautiyal said that the state government should put extra effort on vaccination of 18 to 44 years age group population and in the regions where vaccination number are lower. The scope of mobile vaccination needs to be enhanced in the hill districts of Uttarakhand.
