Uttarakhandis scaling new heights of development & progress: President

President Droupadi Murmu appreciated the developments which have been achieved in Uttarakhand since its creation. Speaking at the State Foundation Day celebrations here on Thursday, she said that it is a matter of happiness that with the new identity, the hardworking people of Uttarakhand are scaling new heights of development and progress.

The President noted that the physical and digital connectivity of Uttarakhand is consistently increasing while infrastructure development is taking place at a rapid pace. The government is also giving special attention to disaster management. She stated that the multi-dimensional progress in Uttarakhand is leading to increased enthusiasm among investors. Murmu appreciated the State government’s initiative to estimate Gross Environment Product (GEP). She stated that focusing on state GDP as well as state GEP in a State full of natural resources will strengthen sustainable development.

The President said that the land of Uttarakhand has been the land of braves. The youth of this State feel proud in joining the Indian armed forces and protecting Mother India. She stated that this feeling of passion towards national security is exemplary for every citizen. She highlighted that two regiments of the Indian Army – Garhwal regiment and Kumaon regiment – are named after the regions of Uttarakhand. It underlines the gallantry tradition of Uttarakhand, she added. The President also presented the Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman to Madhuri Barthwal, Basanti Bisht, Sacchidanand Bharti and Rajendra Singh Bisht for their work in their respective fields.

Addressing the gathering, governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh said that amidst the digital revolution, cyber security is a major responsibility and that steps are being taken towards the use of latest technology for this. The government is working to ensure transparent and proactive policing while maintaining a check on crime its topmost priority. Today Uttarakhand is among the leading States of the nation considering various parameters, he said. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the Kumaon region, Singh said that Modi’s visit to Adi Kailash and Jageshwar has given a new identity to the Manaskhand region in India and abroad. Infrastructural development in the border villages is also a top priority for the government, the governor said.

Expressing his views on the occasion, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also remembered former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as it was during his tenure in office that the dream of the creation of Uttarakhand State was achieved. He said that under PM Modi’s guidance, the State government is working to develop Uttarakhand into a model State. “A lot of works have been done for the first time in 23 years and for the first time a strict anti-copying law has been introduced for stringent action against those involved in recruitment scams. A strict anti-conversion law has been implemented for the first time in 23 years and for the first time preparation is being undertaken for implementation of uniform civil code in Uttarakhand,” Dhami said. He also announced that a women policy will be implemented soon in the State. Incentives will be given as part of drug-free village and drug-free city schemes while the Mukhyamantri Kanya Samuhik Vivah Yojana will also be started to provide necessary assistance to families in need.
