USWC directs police to conduct regular hotel inspections to prevent exploitation of girls

The chairperson of Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission (USWC) Kusum Kandwal has asked senior police officials to conduct regular inspections of hotels to ensure men arriving from other cities do not lure girls and exploit them there.

Kandwal took suo moto cognisance of a recent case in which a girl was lured by a man to a hotel near Gucchupani for an alleged sexual assault. She directed deputy inspector general P Renuka Devi and superintendent of police (City) of Dehradun, Sarita Dobhal to conduct a serious investigation into the matter.

Kandwal said that men arriving from other States and luring young girls here for sexual assault using drugs is a serious matter of concern and the police should take stringent action against such acts. She said the police should pay extra attention to such incidents and must conduct regular checking campaigns and inspections in hotels where such incidents are likely to happen often. She directed the SP to ensure that emergency numbers, police helpline and women’s helpline numbers are well displayed in all hotels and related establishments so that the person concerned can approach authorities when needed.
