Use mules if needed to ensure every home gets clear water: DM

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
If not through pipelines, then by tankers and if not by tankers, then by mules but clean and safe drinking water must reach every citizen, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said. Under his direction, the district administration has activated a dedicated control room, bringing together officers from seven departments for the first time to resolve drinking water complaints swiftly and efficiently.
The DM said that since the initiative began, the control room has received 36 complaints, of which 34 have already been resolved. The administration is taking daily updates through morning and evening briefings led by additional district magistrate and sub divisional magistrate Kumkum Joshi. Bansal said that complaints received via phone, WhatsApp or media reports are being addressed in real time.
A team of junior and assistant engineers from the Jal Sansthan and Peyjal Nigam are stationed in the control room to ensure immediate coordination and action, he said. He stated that the officials concerned have swiftly addressed concerns like pump failures and pipeline damage among others. In Mohanpur, a blown motor was fixed the same evening after a report appeared in a newspaper. In Krishnapuram, tankers were deployed after low pressure left homes without water. Repairs were also made in Subhashnagar where a gas pipeline project damaged water lines and at GMS Road where electric cable work had affected water supply. In MDDA Colony, water flow resumed after a damaged valve spindle was replaced, Bansal said.
He informed that the control room continues to monitor supply daily, especially in water-stressed zones. Electricity to tube wells and borewells is being ensured for uninterrupted pumping. The administration has also shared toll-free numbers, including 0135-2726066 and 1077, for public grievance reporting. The DM said that the district administration is taking all possible measures to tackle water supply issues during the summer to provide uninterrupted, safe water access to every household in Dehradun.
