UPNL union threatens mass conversion

Friday, 16 February 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In latest news from Doon, in a curious pressure- mounting ultimatum, the president of the association of Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) workers Vinod Gadiyal said that unless the State government conceded their demand of same salary for same work, about 25,000 UPNL employees would collectively change their religions along with their families after the jummah prayer was over. Tearing into the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government in the State, he said that while the PM kept pontificating on Ram Rajya being ushered in, the State government had been meting out step-motherly treatment to the UPNL employees. “Our patience having run out, we will convert to other religions if the State government does not concede our long- ignored demand of same salary for same work,” he said. Notably, about 25,000 people have been working in several State government departments recruited through UPNL. They have been demanding same salary for same work for over a year and the case is now pending before Nainital High Court.
