Covid contagion assumes alarming proportions in U’khand

Record breaking 127 deaths, 7783 new cases reported in a single day on Wednesday. 

The uncontrolled surge in the second wave of the contagion of Covid-19 is continuing at an alarming pace in Uttarakhand. The small Himalayan state recorded a whopping 7783 cases of the disease on Wednesday which surpassed the previous record of 7028 cases registered in a single day on Tuesday. Apart from being highly infectious, the contagion of Covid-19 is getting more and more fatal in the state. The state health department reported a record 127 deaths on Wednesday which broke the previous record of 122 deaths in a day on April 30. The  state now has 211834 cumulative cases of the disease and a total of 3142 deaths have so far been reported.

The death rate in the state is 1.48 percent which is significantly higher than the national average. The authorities discharged 4757 patients after recovery from the hospitals on Wednesday. The cumulative count of recovered patients in the state has now increased to 144941. 

Out of staggering 127 deaths reported on Wednesday, 24 deaths were reported from Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital. Similarly 17 patients were reported dead at Sushila Tiwari government hospital Haldwani while nine patients each succumbed to Covid-19 at HNB Base hospital Srinagar and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh on the day. Eight patients died at Military hospital Dehradun while seven patients each were reported dead at Himalayan hospital Jollygrant, Vinay Vishal Health care Dehradun and Sanjivini hospital Kashipur on Wednesday. Four patients each were reported dead at District hospital Pithoragarh and Max hospital Dehradun while three patients each died at CMI hospital Dehradun, Velmed hospital Dehradun and Arogyadham hospital Dehradun.  

Dehradun district reported 2771 new patients of Covid-19 on Wednesday while 1043 patients surfaced in Udham Singh Nagar on the day. Nainital reported 956, Haridwar 599, Tehri 504, Chamoli 283, Almora 271, Pauri 263, Champawat 245, Bageshwar and Uttarkashi 240 each, Pithoragarh 225 and Rudraprayag 143 new patients of Covid-19 on Wednesday.

The state now has 59256 active patients of the disease. Dehradun continues to be at the top of the table of active cases of the disease with 20873 patients, Haridwar has 10343, Nainital 6984, Udham Singh Nagar 4875, Pauri 3729, Tehri 2545, Champawat 1995, Chamoli 1698, Almora 1675, Pithoragarh 1340, Uttarkashi 1307, Bageshwar 1092 and Rudraprayag 1070 active cases of the disease.  To contain the contagion of Covid-19, the state administration has set up 315 containment zones in different parts of the state.

 In the ongoing vaccination drive 42268 people were vaccinated in 432 sessions in different parts of the state. A total of 480484 people have so far been fully vaccinated in the state while 1701989 have been partially vaccinated.
