U’khand witnessed history with tabling of UCC bill: Maharaj

The State’s Culture, Tourism and Public Works minister Satpal Maharaj said that the tabling of the Uniform Civil Code bill in the Vidhan Sabha is a historic occasion in the land of Badrinath and Kedarnath. Talking to media persons at the Assembly on Tuesday, the minister said that all the members are enthusiastically participating in the debate on the UCC bill as part of the process for passing the bill. He said, “This bill will be passed with the aim of ensuring that women get their rights. Child marriages will be prohibited and there are various other provisions in the UCC which will offer a model code of conduct for the nation. UCCs are already in force in nations like Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Japan, German, France, Indonesia and other nations and in India, its implementation is set to be started in Uttarakhand,” the minister said. He further congratulated the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for tabling the UCC bill.
