U’khand to vote today in the Lok Sabha elections- 2024

The Election Commission is all geared up for free and fair conduct of Lok Sabha elections -2024 in all the five seats of the State. The voting on the five seats, Tehri, Haridwar, Garhwal, Nainital- Udham Singh Nagar and Almora (SC) constituencies will start at 7 AM and end at 5 PM on Friday. The Additional Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO) Uttarakhand Vijay Kumar Jogdande said on Thursday afternoon that all the polling parties of the State will reach their destinations by evening. He said that all the polling parties will conduct a mock poll before the start of voting on Friday. All the polling parties will provide information about the start of voting and status of polling every two hours.

 Jogdande said that the departments associated with essential services such as government hospitals have been asked to function round the clock.

 Jogdande informed that 1,365 criticaland 809 vulnerable polling booths have been identified in the State. Adequate security measures and force deployment will be done in these booths. He said that 293 flying squads and 252 static surveillance teams are on an alert mode in the State. He said that seizure worth Rs 16.41 crore have been done in the State from the declaration of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in view of the Lok Sabha elections in the State. The Police department has seized cash worth Rs 8.94 crore while Rs 6.14 and Rs 91 lakh respectively have been seized by Income Tax and excise department respectively.

 Jogdande further elaborated that Rs 5.90 crore in cash, Rs 3.06 crore in liquor and Rs 4.03 crore worth narcotics have been seized so far in the State.
