The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) department of Uttarakhand would undertake a massive statewide drive against adulteration in edible oil. The campaign would be organised as per the regulations of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and is part of the pan India campaign. The fortnight-long programme would start from August 1. Under the campaign the samples of edible oil collected from all parts of the state would be sent to the labs for testing. The reports of these samples collected by the department would be made public.

Informing about the plan of the department, the health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that a special campaign would be organised in the state under which samples of branded and local edible oil would be collected. He said that the samples would be tested for argemone oil, mineral oil and other standards. The content of Trans fat would also be tested in oil samples. He said that the reports of the samples tested would be made public to make the people aware about how safe their edible oil is.

Rawat said that the officers of the department have been asked to increase sample collection and testing of food products and prevent food adulteration. He said that the department has also been directed to make the people aware about the benefit of balanced, safe and nutritious food. Rawat said that the people should also be told about the harmful effects of consuming the oil that is used repetitively.
