U’khand to have bag free days in schools for students of VI to XII

In a measure which will give a reprieve to students, the Education department has decided that the students will not have to carry bags in the schools for ten days in a year. On the directive of the Education minister, Dhan Singh Rawat the Education department has decided to observe bag free days on the last Saturday of every month.

 Rawat said that the decision of observing bag free days in the schools has been taken in accordance with the norms mentioned in the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. On these days the students will be given a chance to participate in different activities as per their interest.  The teacher organisations and the parent associations have welcomed the decision of the education department to observe bag free days.

 The scheme of bag free days will be implemented in all upper primary and middle schools of the state and will be applicable for the students of class VI to XII. The objective of the scheme is to reduce the load of the school bags on the students, develop innate skills of the students and promote local trade and handicraft. The chief education officer will be responsible for implementation of the scheme in the districts.

 Three types of activities will be organised on the bag free days, they are biological form, machine and human services. In the biological form the students will be informed about soil management and skills of farming and horticulture. Similarly in the machine and material category, the students will be taught about making handicraft items using paper, wood, soil, paint, cloth and ink. They will also be informed about the usage of modern machines. In the human services the students will be informed about team spirit, maintaining health and hygiene and developing oratory skills.
