The Dehradun excise department on Wednesday raided a house at Majri Mafi area in Doiwala and seized 162 cases of illicit liquor. The authorities also recovered a vehicle with 12 cases of foreign liquor from the spot and arrested the owner of the house Ankit Negi. The authorities in Dehradun district have started a drive against bootleggers in wake of the death of 13 men in two villages of Haridwar district allegedly due to the consumption of spurious liquor. The Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Daleep Singh Kunwar has also ordered all station house officers (SHOs) and in-charges to take action against bootleggers and spurious liquor sellers in their respective areas. He has made it clear that the respective officials will be held responsible for any unfortunate event that occurs under their respective police stations due to bootlegging. The officials stated that the seized liquor on Wednesday is worth lakhs of rupees. The authorities also suspect that the alcohol was possibly being adulterated there as packaging materials like labels and wrappers were found at the spot too. However they said that the matter is under investigation and it would be too soon to confirm or deny any notion.
