In a major relief for more than 1.5 lakh of state government employees and equal number of pensioners, the Uttarakhand government has removed the freeze imposed on their Dearness Allowance (DA). The employees would now get 28 per cent DA.

The Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made the announcement in the state assembly on Wednesday. The CM said that the DA of state government employees would be increased by 11 per cent. The increased DA would be paid from September this year. It is worth mentioning here that the state government had imposed a freeze on the DA of the employees in April last year in view of the financial crisis precipitated by contagion of Covid -19. The union government had recently removed the freeze and had hiked the DA by 11 per cent.

After this the various employee organizations of Uttarakhand were demanding removal of the freeze on DA. Reacting to the development the association of secretariat employees has thanked CM Dhami. The president of the association Deepak Joshi said that the employees were demanding removal of DA from quite some time and by accepting the demand the CM Dhami has shown his qualities.
