U’khand Cong takes Nadda’s visit as a wakeup call

Party to revamp its organization, set up booth level committees in all 70 assembly segments

The recent four day tour of Uttarakhand by national president of BJP, J P Nadda has also galvanised the faction ridden Uttarakhand Congress as the party cadre has taken the development as a wakeup call for the party, that has now suddenly jumped into an election mode.

The state unit of the party has formulated a month long plan to activate its organisational setup for the assembly elections slated in early part of 2022. The party has also decided to revamp its district and block committees wherever needed and set up booth level committees in all 70 assembly constituencies.

The Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana told The Pioneer that the party’s organisation in the state would be strengthened and revamped in next one month, following which the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Pritam Singh would visit all 70 assembly segments.

“The PCC president has directed the in-charges of the organisational districts and assembly constituencies to camp in their respective areas and hold meetings with party workers to strengthen the organisation. The district and block committees would be revamped wherever required. The focus of the party is to form booth committees consisting of at least ten workers in all assembly constituencies,’’ Dhasmana said.

Dhasmana added that the PCC president Pritam Singh has already toured the state and in the second phase he would visit every assembly constituency once the process of formation of booth level committees is complete. He also disclosed that the party would soon organise the workers’ conclaves in different parts of the state to galvanise the party.

The Uttarakhand Congress is banking on the anti incumbency against the BJP government and is hoping to vest power in the state in the assembly elections of 2022. The party performed poorly in the assembly elections of 2017 when it was able to secure victory in only 11 assembly constituencies in 70 member Vidhan Sabha. Things remained similar in the Lok Sabha election of 2019 when Congress candidates lost from all five Lok Sabha seats in the state. It however would be interesting to see how the factions led by former Chief Minister Harish Rawat and PCC president Pritam Singh take up a united fight against a powerful BJP in the battle of 2022.
