Tourist numbers rise in Auli after recent snowfall

Following the snowfall experienced at Auli near Joshimath early last week, tourists are making the most of the opportunity. Tourists arriving at this winter sports destination in Chamoli district are skiing and enjoying various other recreational activities on the snow covered slope of Auli. The local businessmen involved in various trades related to tourism are hopeful that after the recent snowfall, tourists will arrive in Auli for Christmas and New Year celebrations, especially if there is more snowfall in the coming days.

It will be recalled that Auli had witnessed snowfall on December 12. Following this, tourists have gradually started reaching Auli in more numbers. With the motor road open, the tourists are arriving at Auli and then taking the chair lift to view and travel up the snow covered slope. Dinesh Bhatt who is involved in a tourism related business said visitors are skiing near the tower number 10 of the ropeway. The number of tourists arriving here at present is less but if there is snowfall once again, the number of tourists is expected to rise noticeably. About 200 to 300 tourists are using the chair lift in Auli every day after the recent snowfall. The local businessmen are hoping for more snowfall as this is expected to guarantee a considerable number of tourists here during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
