Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated a statue of and memorial to the late chief of defence staff, general Bipin Rawat at Kanak Chowk in Dehradun on Friday. He announced that a big project in the State will be named after general Rawat.

Paying tributes to Rawat, the CM said that his accidental death was an irreparable loss to the nation. “The late general Rawat’s selfless service to the nation spanning four decades was full of uncommon courage and skill. During the surgical strike, his guidance had proved very useful to the soldiers,” said Dhami.

Speaking about various steps taken by the State government for welfare of service and ex-servicemen, he said that so far 23 dependents of martyred soldiers had been provided government jobs. General Rawat’s two daughters Kritika and Tarini, cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi and MLA Khajan Das were also among those present on the occasion.
