Two tourists found dead near Auli

Dead bodies of two tourists were found buried under a layer of snow at Gorson Bugyal near Auli in Joshimath on Saturday. The authorities have identified them as two tourists from Maharashtra as 50-year-old Sanjeev Kumar Gupta and 35-year-old Seensha Gupta. The officials informed that both tourists reached Auli by ropeway on  December 13 and set out on the track of Gorson Bugyal on the same day. The station house officer (SHO) of Joshimath Rajendra Singh informed that both deceased had reached Joshimath on December 12 and stayed at GMVN’s tourist accommodation and checked out on December 13 to visit Auli. 

Their body was spotted by a tourist who informed the authorities about it on December 31. The forest department carried out a search operation the next day with the help of four teams and informed the police after the bodies were found at Gorson Bugyal near Auli. The teams of police and the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) retrieved the bodies and sent it to Joshimath by ambulance. The officials said that authorities in Maharashtra have been informed about the incident.
