Rain with thunder & lighting brings relief from heat in Doon

Heavy rain warning issued for Bageshwar & Pithoragarh, intense shower, squall and hail alert issued for isolated places

After a hot day, the weather took a turn as forecast in Dehradun and other places in the State on Tuesday night. A spell of rain and gusty wind along with lightning and thunder brought considerable relief from the heat. The State meteorological centre has issued a warning (watch) regarding the possibility of heavy at isolated places in Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Wedhesday. The centre has also issued an alert regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with intense shower, lightning, hail and squall (50-60 kmph gusting up to 70 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in the districts on Wednesday. In addition to this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at most places in the districts of the State today whereas snowfall is likely to occur at isolated places situated at altitudes of 3,500 metres and above.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to experience rain/thunderstorm/hail accompanied with gusty wind (40-50 kmph) today. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 37 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Wednesday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Tuesday were 38.7 degrees Celsius and 23.8 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 37.4 degrees Celsius and 25.7 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 27.1 degrees Celsius and 15.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 27.8 degrees Celsius and 16.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Light to moderate rain was also reported from some places in the State on Tuesday with 25 millimetres in Uttarkashi, 20.5 millimetres in Kausain, 8.5 millimetres in Jakholi and six millimetres in Garud.
