The Bharatiya Janata Party has welcomed the Women’s Reservation bill in the parliament. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that with this step the Modi government has fulfilled the dream of ensuring proper representation to women in the parliament and Vidhan Sabha. On the issue of the ruckus raised by Congress MLA Madan Singh Bisht at the residence of an engineering college’s director, he questioned the silence of the Congress and appealed to the governor to initiate necessary action.

In an informal interaction with mediapersons at the BJP State office here on Tuesday, Bhatt said that the Central cabinet’s approval to facilitating 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha is a historic decision of the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that this bill has been awaiting passage in the parliament since the 90s. Various governments attempted to get it passed on repeated occasions but failed. Considering Modi’s track record, the people of the nation are confident that the bill will get passed this time. This decision is being welcomed in Uttarakhand like it is being welcomed across the nation, said Bhatt. He further said that in Uttarakhand too the State government is striving to socially strengthen women by providing 50 per cent reservation in Panchayats and 30 per cent reservation in government jobs.

Replying to a question regarding the Dwarahat MLA Madan Singh Bisht, the BJP State president said that the misbehaviour done by the Congress MLA in front of the college students, the director and his family members is condemnable and shameful. The information coming out along with videos contrary to the allegations levelled by the MLA expose his mentality. Bhatt said that the law will take its own course in this case though the comments made by the MLA regarding the chief minister and the party while threatening the students and college administration are unfortunate. The BJP demands that the governor take cognisance of this incident and take necessary constitutional action, added Bhatt. The silence of the Congress leaders on this issue is akin to their support, he added.
