Training of the third batch of the panchayat representatives from Ladakh begins

The training of the third batch of the Panchayat representatives from the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh started on Wednesday. The 40 member group comprises 13 women Sarpanchs ( head of village Panchayats). In the inaugural session of training the secretary Panchayati Raj H C Semwal said that a better model of Panchayats can be established in Ladakh by getting information about the Panchayati Raj system of Uttarakhand and implementation of different schemes in the state.

The training and exposure visit would include information about best practices of Panchayats of Uttarakhand, discussions with local representatives of Panchayats, budget and financial management, project planning, solid waste management, National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) and other aspects of the three tier Panchayati raj system.

In the first classroom session, research and development specialist Kanchan Negi taught about the need of training, data analysis and implementation aspects of projects. Joint Director DRDA, Vivek Upadhyaya explained about use of Antyodaya data in preparation of Gram Panchayat Development Plan (DPDP) and NRLM.

Later the secretary flagged off a vehicle carrying the Sarpanchs of Ladakh for visiting village panchayat Jhajhra in Sahaspur block of Dehradun. In the village the local MLA Sahdev Pundir and others welcomed the guests from Ladakh.
