Thunderstorms with intense showers likely in Kumaon today, plains to remain hot

The maximum temperature remained in the neighbourhood of 40 degrees Celsius in the plains while light to moderate rain was experienced in various mountainous regions on Saturday. The State meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/intense showers/gusty wind (30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous areas of the Kumaon region today. The meteorological centre has further forecast that light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at a few places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Almora, Nainital and Champawat districts on Sunday. Very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri districts while dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the State today. Further, surface winds are likely to be strong and gusty during the daytime in the plains of the State.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly cloudy sky. Thunder cloud development is likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 40 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in the State on Saturday were 38.9 degrees Celsius and 26.8 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 39.5 degrees Celsius and 25.2 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 25.2 degrees Celsius and 14.9 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 27.6 degrees Celsius and 18.4 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Light to moderate rain was reported in various places with 42 millimetres in Chorgaliya, 25 millimetres in Nainital, 21 millimetres in Jeolikot, 19.5 millimetres in Chaukhutiya and 11 millimetres in Rikhnikhal.
