Three-day spell of rain & snowfall likely to start today

After a brief spell of clear weather a three-day spell of rain and snowfall is forecast in the State from Friday. The State meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding heavy rain/heavy snowfall (3,500 metres and above) likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts today. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail/ gusty wind (30-40 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in the State. The meteorological centre has further forecast that light to moderate rain/thunderstorms/snowfall are likely to occur at most places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts and at many places in remaining mountainous districts. Very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at a few places in the plain districts while snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 3,000 metres and above.

Dehradun is likely to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of light to moderate rain/thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/hail/gusty wind (30-40 kmph) likely to occur in some areas towards night/early morning. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 29 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius respectively. Meanwhile, State meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said that the rain and snowfall activity is expected to peak on Saturday and decrease but continue on Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Thursday were 27.7 degrees Celsius and 9.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 26.4 degrees Celsius and 6.2 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 17.4 degrees Celsius and 4.4 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 19 degrees Celsius and 5.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
