One killed, four missing in Pauri road accident

One person was killed and four went missing after a car fell into a 200 metre gorge near Pauri’s Pabau in the wee hours of Friday. The officials said that a car carrying five persons fell into the gorge on Kotdwar-Pabau road and the police reached the spot after getting information along with rescue teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and fire department. The rescue team descended into the gorge with the help of a rope to conduct the search operation. The officials said that the rescue team found the body of a young man identified as Devendra Gusain (24) in the wee hours. The personnel retrieved the body and brought it to the main road via an alternate route and handed it over to the local police. However, the authorities had to stop the rescue operation due to extremely inaccessible surroundings and dark in the wee hours, said the officials. The authorities resumed the operation on Friday morning and found the car carrying the victims. However, the SDRF team was unable to find any missing person till late evening. Their search will be resumed on Saturday, added officials. The missing persons have been identified as Amandeep Rawat (20), Prashant Gusain (20), Saurabh (18) and Himanshu Shah (18). The officials said that all the victims belonged to the villages of Pauri and were going from Maso village to Pabau late on Tuesday night as per the locals.
