Accuse speaker Khanduri of adopting a selective approach in the case

The terminated employees of Vidhan Sabha secretariat staged a protest outside the Vidhan Sabha on Monday. Accusing the speaker Ritu Khanduri for adopting a selective approach, the protesters said that the employees appointed prior to the year 2016 should also be removed from the Assembly secretariat. The protesters said that the DK Kotia committee in its report has said that all the appointments in the Vidhan Sabha from the year 2000 to 2022 were done in a similar manner. The Vidhan Sabha secretariat in its affidavit submitted in the court has also said that all appointments made in the Vidhan Sabha are illegal. They pointed out that in such a situation, removal of only the employees appointed after the year 2016 is not justified. “Why are the employees who were appointed before the year 2016 whose appointment is also being called illegal by  Vidhan Sabha being saved,’’ questioned one of the agitators.

“The Vidhan Sabha secretariat in its affidavit in court has clearly stated that all 396 appointments made from the year 2000 till date are illegal but only we are being targeted,’’ said another protester.

These former employees threatened that they would stage a protest along with their family members because they have no other option now.

It is pertinent to mention here that all the appointments done in Vidhan Sabha secretariat were ad hoc in nature. In the year 2001 a total of 53 appointments were made while 28, five, 18, eight, 21 and 27 were appointed in the years 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 respectively. In the years 2008 and 2013 one employee each was recruited while seven were recruited in the year 2014. In 2016 a total of 149, in 2020 six and 72 were recruited in the year 2021. All the ad hoc employees recruited prior to 2016 were regularised while the remaining 228 recruited in 2016, 2020 and 2021 were terminated by the Vidhan Sabha speaker Khanduri on the recommendation of the expert committee headed by DK Kotia. The terminated employees have taken the issue to the court but here too got no relief.
