PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The siren rang in Dehradun and the government machinery sprung into action in Dehradun on Wednesday. The action was part of the Civil Defence mock drill held in the district on the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs at a time when kinetic action has been taken by India against terror hubs in Pakistan and Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The mock drill was monitored at the Uttarakhkand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) in the presence of the director general of police Deepam Seth, Home secretary Shailesh Bagauli and Disaster Management secretary Vinod Kumar Suman.

Seth and Bagauli reached the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) before the designated time for the sounding of the siren. The SEOC was linked to the incident sites, staging area, incident command post and relief centres. Bagauli sought detailed information from Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal at the SEOC about the various incidents. He asked how the forces were despatched on receipt of information about incidents, which teams were sent, where were the shelters set up and the capacity of the shelters, the facilities available in the staging area and other aspects.

The DGP sought information about reserve sources and equipment from personnel in the field. He told the personnel to ensure that the smooth movement of ambulances and relief and rescue vehicles is facilitated. Suman said that a detailed report must be prepared on the loopholes identified during the mock drill. Attempts will be made to not have these gaps in future mock drills, he said.
