In latest Dehradun news, the students of Welham Girls’ School, Welham Boys’ School and The Doon School came together to launch a collaborative social service project: ‘Rooh’.  The senior office bearers of the schools said that ‘Rooh’ comprises two projects: ‘Rimjhim’- The Sound of the Earth and Sawan’-The Rain of Service, each designed to address critical social issues and to make a positive impact on the community life.  Ten delegates from classes XI and XII of each school participated in the first activity, ‘Rimjhim’ that entailed a one-day educational visit to Sahaspur. The office bearers of the schools further said that this project aimed at fostering a strong connect between the academic community and the local farming community and at rousing awareness about sustainable agriculture practices, farming techniques, soil fertility management and also inculcating among the students a deep appreciation for nature and its processes. As a part of fertility management and plantation, the delegates planted saplings, fed farm animals, interacted with the community and created a vermicompost pit, all in a day. The delegates learnt about cattle management, organic farming, apiculture or honey farming, chicken and emu farming, fruits plantation, farm tourism and composting.
