The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika said that strict action will be taken against the Lekhpal and Patwaris if the administration finds encroachment on the government land in the areas under their purview. She also directed the sub divisional magistrates to seriously look into encroachment complaints. She asked them to analyse the situation by conducting a field inspection of the land concerned after checking the investigation report of the Patwari concerned. She stated this in the public hearing held on Monday after reviewing the complaints regarding encroachment on government land, especially in rural areas.

The DM received a total of 102 complaints at the public hearing. The complaints mostly included issues related to encroachment on government land, settlement of outsiders on private land and damaged roads in rural areas, among others. She directed the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) and the police to verify the complaints of outsiders being settled on private land by some people. The DM also received a complaint from some residents of the Natthanpur area who stated that a person is allegedly settling people belonging to other States illegally on private land. According to the local complainants, these people are causing a nuisance in the area and have made the lives of the locals difficult.

Taking cognisance of the issue, Sonika directed the officials concerned of MCD and the police to visit the spot to verify the claims and investigate the matter. She asked them to submit a report on the matter soon after completing the investigation. She directed them to verify all such complaints on time and act accordingly. Besides this, the DM also directed MCD officials to act against encroachments on the corporation’s land.
