The Congress has alleged that the State administration is trying its best to suppress the truth in the recent incident involving alleged sexual harassment of the daughter of a former BJP MLA from Uttarkashi by senior IFS officer Sushant Patnaik.

Interacting with the media persons, the chief spokesperson of state Congress Garima Dasauni said that though the administration tried to hide the incident which recently took place in the office of pollution control board, the truth has come out. She said that the harassed woman is the daughter of a former BJP MLA from Uttarkashi. Dasauni said that the then member secretary of board Patnaik tried to molest the daughter of the former BJP MLA deployed in the office of the board.

She said that the victim submitted a written complaint to the DGP after which Patnaik was removed from the post and attached to the office of principal chief conservator of forests.  She questioned why Patnaik was removed from the post if he is not guilty. Dasauni said that the status of women security in the State can be understood from this incident where the daughter of a former BJP MLA is also not safe.

Dasauni also criticised the State government for not recommending the name of noted folk singer Narendra Singh Negi for the Padma awards. She claimed that the  name of Negi was there in the list but was struck down by the government when Negi released a video in support of the land law movement. She said that the people of Uttarakhand will not tolerate Negi’s insult.

The president of Mahanagar Congress Jaswinder Singh Gogi said that unemployment and price rise are at their peak in the State. The unemployed are being lathi-charged when they protest against recruitment scams. He said that the recent data of NCRB shows that Uttarakhand is at top among nine Himalayan States in crimes against women. Gogi said that in the last one year 907 women were raped and 778 were kidnapped in one year. He said that the Agnipath scheme has hit the youngsters of the State hard.
