The joint team of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) and Kashipur police busted a spurious cement manufacturing factory at Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district early on Sunday morning. The factory was manufacturing spurious cement and filling it in duplicate bags of several noted brands like Ultratech, ACC, Bangur and Mycem cement to sell as genuine products in the market, said the senior superintendent of police of STF Ayush Agrawal.
He claimed that a large stock of this spurious cement was allegedly being sold in the market as genuine branded products. He said that a cement factory was raided early on Sunday morning as part of a joint operation by the STF and Kashipur police led by Kumaon circle officer of STF Sumit Pandey. He said that the authorities have seized 1,250 bags of spurious cement, a large quantity of loose spurious cement and 1,200 empty bags of noted cement brands along with machinery used to manufacture the cement. He claimed that authorities also found two trucks filled with bags of fake cement which were ready to be sent for supply in the market. He said that the team arrested a man named Kamal Sagar who was allegedly operating the factory at the time. He stated in the preliminary questioning that the factory is allegedly owned and run by a habitual criminal Wasim, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, who is presently absconding, said Agrawal.
Sagar claimed that he is only a munshi of Wasim and that he used to look after the factory work. Agrawal said that several cases are registered against Wasim on charges of running spurious cement manufacturing factories in several police stations of Uttarakhand as well as in UP. He said that STF has registered a case against both accused under Section 420, 467, 468, 471 of the Indian Penal Code and section 63, 65 of the Copyright Act 1957, and section 102, 104 of Trademark Act 1999 at Kotwali Kashipur. This is an ongoing investigation and the authorities will soon arrest Wasim too, added SSP.
