In accordance with directives from the Health department, the Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital here has geared up for the preparations to properly treat any new cases of Covid-19.
Informing about this, the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr VS Chauhan said that the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun, Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma, recently issued guidelines for this. In response to these instructions, the hospital administration has made comprehensive arrangements to confront any new cases of Covid-19. He said that a 10-bed isolation ward has been reserved and they have also reserved 10 beds in the ICU for more severe cases. Additionally, the hospital has arranged 100 oxygen cylinders, with all operations having been thoroughly checked.
The hospital administration is well-equipped with enough test kits to assess the new rise of Covid-19 cases among individuals. He emphasised that he has instructed the doctors to conduct Covid tests if they encounter patients displaying symptoms such as cold, cough or difficulty breathing. He said that, so far, there has been no increase in cases of common influenza, including cold and cough, at the district hospital. However, if such cases do rise in the future, a separate outpatient department (OPD) will be set up at the hospital.
Dr Chauhan also said that it is now mandatory for patients, attendees and doctors to wear masks within hospital premises. In addition, there is an ample supply of medication available at the hospital. He pointed out that it has been observed that patients in the OPD registration line tend to stand too close to each other. To address this, a directive has been issued to maintain a two-foot distance while queuing for registration at the hospital. Apart from this, the doctors have been directed to be in alert mode. He also said that to prevent the latest incidence of Covid-19, individuals are advised to take essential precautions, such as maintaining a safe distance, refraining from handshakes and adhering to Covid-19 appropriate behaviour.
It’s important to note that, in light of the increasing Covid-19 cases in India, the Health Department has recently issued guidelines to both private and public hospitals in the Dehradun district to ensure adequate preparedness.
