Char Dham Yatra: Health secretary visits Badrinath to check Dept’s preparations

At a time when the Covid-19 cases are rising consistently in the State and about one week left for the start of the Char Dham Yatra,  the Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar visited Badrinath on Friday and inspected the preparations of the Health department and arrangements for the upcoming Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra. He visited the primary health centre (PHC) and the medical relief point in Badrinath.

In the visit he directed the chief medical officer (CMO) of Chamoli to ensure that necessary arrangements of life saving medicines, health equipment and measures needed to reduce risk to health in the high Himalayan regions should be made before the start of the Yatra. Since the road was blocked at a distance of 38 kilometres from Joshimath towards Badrinath, the secretary, the CMO and other employees reached Badrinath on foot. In Badrinath apart from inspecting the PHC and Medical Relief Point (MRP) , Kumar visited the site of the under construction transit hostel of the Health department and 50 bed hospital in Badrinath. Irked at the slow pace of the construction of the transit hostel the secretary directed the CMO to ensure that the executing agency completes the work in time.

The secretary also visited Pandukeshwar and Govindghat which are on the Yatra route of Hemkund Sahib and  Lokpal temple and inspected the arrangements. At these places he visited the PHC and MRP. The manager of Govindghat Gurudwara Sahib, Sewa Singh gave a detailed account of the facility on the Hemkund Yatra route.
