Stage set for start of budget session of Assembly in Gairsain today

The stage is set for the start of the budget session of the Vidhan Sabha at Bharadisain in Gairsain from Monday.  The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh, Assembly speaker Ritu Khanduri, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, leader of opposition in the Assembly Yashpal Arya and other members reached Bharadisain for the session. The speaker Ritu Khanduri participated in a Hawan wishing for peace and prosperity for the people of Uttarakhand. She expressed confidence that the budget session of the Assembly will be conducted properly and in a peaceful manner. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid courtesy visits to the governor, the speaker and leader of the opposition in the Assembly.

During the business advisory committee and all party meetings held during the afternoon, the Assembly speaker sought the cooperation of all members for quality and constructive debate in the house. The agenda for house proceedings on March 13 and 14 was set in the meeting of the business advisory committee which is slated to meet again on the evening of March 14. In the all party meeting, Khanduri sought the cooperation of the members for peaceful conduct of the house while adding that the members should also maintain the dignity of the office of the governor during the governor’s address.  A constructive debate will be held on the issues of the State’s development and public interest raised in the Assembly, she added.

Earlier, the Finance and Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Agrawal said that the duration of the Assembly session is decided on the basis of the business. Though the plan is to conclude the session as per the schedule, if needed the duration may also be extended. Regarding the budget to be presented in the Vidhan Sabha, he said that it is aimed at facilitating integrated development of the State. Focus has been laid on addressing the issues of all sections of society ranging from farmers and the unemployed to youth and women among others. 

It is pertinent to mention here that after the address of the governor on March 13, discussions on the address and vote of thanks would be held on the next day. As per the tentative plan the Finance minister Prem Chand Agarwal would table the budget of the State for 2023-24 on March 15. After discussions on the budgetary provisions the session is expected to conclude on March 18.
