CM announces welfare initiatives on police commemoration day

In latest news from Dehradun, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid floral tributes at the police memorial to mark the Police Commemoration Day. Aside from paying tributes to the police and para military personnel who have been martyred while on line of duty, the CM felicitated the members of these martyrs’ families. While announcing a slew of welfare initiatives on the occasion, he said that the next of kin of the police personnel to be killed while on line of duty would be immediately provided with Rs one lakh as ex gratia payment and for this, the State government is allotting Rs two crore to the martyred police welfare cell.   Besides, the non-gazetted police personnel will avail free health check up facility once a year and a provision of Rs 100 crore is being set aside for providing residential facilities to police personnel.  The CM further announced that the impediments to the recruitment of the dependant of the police personnel to be killed while discharging duty would be removed.

While speaking of the service being provided by the police force and the para military force personnel in ensuring the internal security of the nation and maintaining law and order, the CM said that they play active roles in the times of natural disasters and curb various types of crimes like cyber crimes and those perpetrated against women. The CM also spoke of the mission the State government has set for making Uttarakhand a drug- free State by 2025 and said that the police’s role in fulfilling this mission is paramount.

The director general of police Ashok Kumar dwelt on the significance of the day, saying that the observance commemorates the supreme sacrifice made by ten brave jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force in 1959 while fighting the Chinese intruders at a high-altitude region in Ladakh.
