69.77 lakh have registered so far for pilgrimage

More than 47 lakh people have visited the Char Dham temples so far this year, said the Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj. The minister said that the pilgrimage is going on without disruption with a large number of pilgrims arriving in the State to visit the temples. The pilgrim numbers have broken last year’s record and more than 47 lakh have visited the Char Dham temples and Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara so far. Further, the value of bookings made in Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam guest houses on the Yatra routes has reached 26.68 crore since February 16. “Considering the large number of people visiting the Char Dham shrines it is likely that the total number of visitors to this shrine will cross 60 lakh this year. The registrations for the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage began on February 18 and so far 69.77 lakh people have registered. About 23.92 lakh have registered for Kedarnath pilgrimage, 20.88 lakh for Badrinath, 11.63 lakh for Gangotri and 10.73 lakh for Yamunotri. Apart from this, 2.60 lakh have registered for the pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara so far,” the minister said.

It will be recalled that about 30 lakh people had visited the Char Dham shrines last year. According to the government, this number is expected to double this year.
