A Right to Information (RTI) query has revealed that the failure of the State administration to provide reservation notification to the State Election Commission (SEC) resulted in a situation where the five year tenure of eight municipal corporations of the State ended without election of deputy mayor. The councilors of the Dehradun, Haridwar, Haldwani, Rudrapur, Kashipur, Roorkee, Rishikesh and Kotdwar waited for the election of deputy mayor till the end of their tenure.
Kashipur resident Nadim Uddin said that he had filed a RTI query with the SEC regarding election of deputy mayors in the municipal corporations of Uttarakhand. He said that though the SEC has not given any reason for not conducting the election of deputy mayors but provided the copies of letters sent by the State administration regarding the reservation notification.
