The police arrested the main accused Shashank Singh (25) in the Reliance Jewels robbery case from Bihar’s Patna late on Saturday. The accused is allegedly the mastermind behind the robbery. According to the police, he had planned the heist from jail with his gang. He is being brought to Dehradun on a three-day transit remand from Patna, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. The SSP said that Shashank has told during the preliminary interrogation in Patna that he and his accomplice Subodh Singh together committed the robbery of about 28 kilogrammes of gold in Mannapuram Gold store in West Bengal’s Barrackpore in 2016 and about 55 kilogrammes of gold in Muthoot Finance Branch in West Bengal’s Asansol in 2017. According to him, he started operating his gang separately from the jail after committing these robberies. The SSP said that the Patna court has approved a three-day transit remand of Parvez to Dehradun police and that he is expected to arrive here with the police team on Monday. Singh said that the police have so far arrested 10 accused in the case. He stated that the police will interrogate Shashank once he arrives here. He is expected to divulge crucial information regarding the robbery case.

A gang of five members had robbed the Rajpur Road situated Reliance Jewels showroom on November 9, a day before Dhanteras last year. President Droupadi Murmu was also present that day in the city as the chief guest in the celebration of the State Foundation Day. The SSP said that the police have arrested members of different gangs who helped in the execution of the robbery and will take further action accordingly as per information gathered from Parvez’s interrogation.
