In latest news from Uttarakhand, in another fatal incident of unabated human-wildlife conflict, a woman was mauled to death by a leopard at Bhujiaghat village under Manora range of Nainital forest division. The victim was identified as Pushpa Devi, a resident of Mora village in Nainital district.
Divulging details, the ranger Mukul Sharma said that when Pushpa Devi came out of her house at around 10:30 PM the big cat which was waiting nearby pounced upon her. Holding the woman in its jaws, as the leopard was moving towards the forest the villagers gathered on hearing her scream. When they started shouting the beast left her and ran into the forest.
The bleeding woman was rushed to a hospital where she was declared brought dead. Sharma further said that after the incident, patrolling has been intensified in the area. “We are setting up a cage to capture the leopard,” he added.
