The cyber crime police station of the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested another culprit involved in national level cyber fraud worth crores of rupees from Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior. The accused identified as Prashant Kashtwal (29) has criminal charges registered against him in 123 cases. Besides this, he is also allegedly involved in 2,311 different cyber crimes across the country. He is involved in cyber fraud of at least Rs eight crore, the deputy superintendent of police of STF’s cyber crime police station Ankush Mishra said. The DSP said that a Dehradun resident had filed a complaint at the cyber crime police station that a man approached him through the Telegram app for part time job to earn quick money. He introduced himself as a representative from a company and described that the job included easy work like giving online Google reviews to establishments whose link was being provided by the accused.

The complainant started clicking on the links provided by the accused to give reviews. However, the accused soon duped him of Rs 19.41 lakh in a few days. The cyber crime teams started analysing technical evidence and finally arrested the accused from Gwalior late on Tuesday. The authorities came to know about his involvement in other criminal cases across the country with the help of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (14 C) of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The STF is investigating the matter and will approach the authorities of other states if needed. The DSP said that cyber scammers are coming up with new ways to scam people everyday and it is important to stay cautious. He appealed to the people to not get lured by lucrative job offers and to refrain from sharing personal details with unknown people on social media platforms and call at 1930 to complain about financial cyber frauds.
