The authorities imposed a fine of more than Rs 40 lakh on two persons for unauthorised mining in the area on Monday. Additional director of Mining department Rajpal Legha and sub divisional magistrate of Kaladhungi, Rekha Kohli along with personnel of Revenue and Mining departments made surprise visits to permitted levelling sites in Belpadav. In Udaipuri village, the officials imposed a penalty of Rs 30, 75, 100 on the permit holder Gurvinder Singh while in Bandarjuda village, a fine of Rs 9,93,608 was imposed on the permit holder Ravinder Bora. A 10-tyre truck was also seized in Bandarjuda for illegal transport of sub minerals. A total of Rs 40,68,708 was imposed as penalty during the surprise checks conducted by the officials. Local sources state that illegal mining is being conducted in sites where levelling is permitted.
