Accused allegedly killed wife for not doing her chores properly
The Dehradun police have arrested a man named Ranjit Singh for allegedly poisoning his wife four days after injuring her internal organs with a hammer. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar said that the victim’s brother had filed a complaint against the accused by phone on December 17. He said that his sister Pinki Devi had called him on the phone a day before and told him that her husband had hit her with a hammer in the stomach and back and she thought she would die soon. When he talked to his niece sometime later on the same day, she said that her mother is not moving at all.
The SSP said that the police reached the home of the victim in the Sauda Saroli area of Raipur where she was found dead. Her husband along with their children was present at the scene. He told the police that the wife fell down the stairs and had been sick since then. He said that he took her to the hospital where the doctor said she can have a heart attack anytime due to her severe internal injuries. The SSP said that the children were also asked about their mother’s death by the official concerned. The children said that their mother had fallen from the stairs. He said that the postmortem revealed serious damage to the victim’s internal organs which, according to the doctor, could be caused only due to consistent blows from an object like a hammer. He said that the viscera of the victim has been preserved by the doctor for other required examinations.
The police arrested the accused on Monday after the post mortem report was received. The SSP said that the accused has confessed to killing his wife as according to him, she never used to do her chores properly. When he returned from work on December 13, he observed that his wife had not done any work so he started scolding her. She started fighting with him so he hit her on her abdomen with a hammer in rage repeatedly and thought she had died. “He said that he threatened the children to make them lie that their mother had fallen down the stairs if somebody asked them about her. However the next day he saw that she was alive so he took her to the hospital and lied to the doctors that she had fallen down the stairs. They treated her and we returned but she was complaining of severe stomach pain. He said that the doctors told him after the ultrasound that there are severe internal wounds and she would possibly die soon. He said his wife started threatening that she would file a police complaint against him after she came to know about her fatal injuries.
The accused then injected a pesticide the same night into his wife and was preparing for her funeral in the morning when the police arrived at his home,” informed Kunwar. The police recovered the bottle of pesticide, a syringe and the hammer used to kill the victim. The daughter of the victim also revealed the truth about her father after being asked again. The police will present the accused in court soon.
