Mayor seeks action against DSCL & agencies for alleged malpractices in Smart City works

Suspecting corruption and malpractices in the works being done under the Smart City project, the Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ has appealed to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to conduct investigation against Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) and agencies involved in the project.

He wrote a letter to the CM on Thursday stating that the construction works under the Smart City project have become a cause of nuisance for citizens due to irresponsible contractors who have pushed the bright future of the city into darkness while consistently playing with public sentiments. He said that several unfilled trenches dug by the agencies have become a norm near the work sites.

The DSCL and its contractors have become infamous for breaking pipelines, damaging sewer lines due to improper working systems and not even repairing them on time, the mayor stated in the letter. He said that the CM had also blacklisted an agency for its irresponsible work in the Smart City project but such action does not appear to have any effect on the agencies concerned to improve their work. He said that the construction work of drains of Paltan Bazaar, Parade Ground and Rajpur Road, which was started by DSCL in November last year, is still far from being completed. He said that such irresponsible behaviour towards work for so long has agitated citizens as well as public representatives.

The mayor also alleged several malpractices regarding quality of material and financial aspects in the construction works and appealed to the CM to take stringent action against DSCL and agencies concerned so as to make it an example for future.
