As the process of bringing youth of Uttarakhand back from war afflicted Ukraine continues, four students of Nainital have returned home while one has reached Delhi. On Tuesday, Prerna Bisht reached her home here. Another student Urvashi Jantwal had returned to India on Monday while two students from Nainital are still reportedly stranded in Ukraine.
Nainital based businessman Prem Singh Bisht’s daughter Prerna Bisht is an MBBS student in her fourth year in Ukraine. After reaching her home safely on Tuesday, she said that while in Ukraine, it had seemed impossible to return home amidst the war. However, thanks to the help from the Government of India she was able to return home and be back with her parents in Nainital, she said. Prerna further said that her Ukrainian faculty members and local citizens had also done their bit to help her survive and escape the war. She was able to get information and access to bunkers and the routes to take to reach the border through the local groups. The Government of India then airlifted her and other Indians from the border. Recounting her experience in Ukraine, she said that the situation there is frightful. The Indians stranded there are taking shelter in bunkers and underground metro stations. The people are facing a shortage of food and drinking water even as shops, ATMs and other facilities remain closed. She said that she was in touch with the Indian embassy and acted as per the directions of the embassy officials. With the situation worsening in Ukraine, the number of people at its border trying to flee to safety is also rising, she added. Her father Prem Singh expressed his gratitude to the Indian government for facilitating the safe return of his daughter from the war-afflicted nation.
Now, two youths from Nainital are reportedly still stranded in Nainital. One of them- Ayushi Joshi is reportedly in Ukraine while others including former MLA Narayan Singh Jantwal and Prem Singh Bisht’s children have returned home.
