Prepare afresh with resolve to win future polls- Rawat

Friday, 06 May | PNS | Lalkuan

Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat said that Congress workers will have to prepare in a new way and move towards victory in future polls in order to break the trend of consistent electoral defeats. He said this while speaking at a review meeting organised by the city unit of the party in Lalkuan, the constituency where he lost in the Assembly elections earlier this year.

Rawat said that after the 2002 Vidhan Sabha election victory, the Congress has been repeatedly losing in the Lalkuan Assembly constituency. This has affected the morale of the party workers who work in all elections while being anxious with thoughts of past defeats. He said that for the party to win in Lalkuan, all party workers in the constituency will have to leave the defeatist mindset and prepare themselves with the determined attitude of the 2002 victory. Rawat said, “A leader can try and contest from another seat too but the party workers have to remain in this constituency. They will have to coordinate and undertake publicity for the party with new energy. Today, the frontal organisations of the Bharatiya Janata Party are indulging in propaganda across the nation. Their network is so swift that they are ensuring the reach of lies to each home and converting them into truths. The Congress workers will also have to prepare for this and work hard to inform the general public about the anti-public works being executed during the tenure of the BJP government.”

The former CM said that the day the workers of Lalkuan constituency take to the roads in a  movement for their rights, he is just a phone call away and will stand shoulder to shoulder with them. However, the party workers in Lalkuan will have to walk in the front.

Earlier, the local party workers also expressed their views in the meeting. They said that the irresponsible organisational structure of the party was responsible for Rawat’s defeat in the Assembly elections from Lalkuan. Former cabinet minister Harish Chandra Durgapal said that the party workers had supported Rawat strongly but the inability to build trust in the public resulted in his defeat.
