As a precaution against Covid-19 important cases will be heard virtually in the Uttarakhand high court from January 10. Similar steps will be taken in lower courts in some plain districts. HC registrar general Dhananjay Chaturvedi informed that guidelines have been displayed on the HC website for virtual hearing of important cases. Covid tests conducted recently on HC judges and other staff revealed that a justice and the wife of another justice were Covid positive. The two justices isolated themselves. One of the justices was hearing cases when his positive report arrived. The officiating chief justice SK Mishra held a meeting with the bar association during which the decision to hold virtual hearings was taken. It is pertinent to mention here that winter vacation is to start in the HC from January 17. Meanwhile, Chaturvedi informed that barring Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Chakrata, virtual hearings will be held from January 10 in lower courts in Dehradun district, Haldwani and Ramnagar in Nainital and Tanakpur in Champawat. Proceedings will be held physically in the courts in mountainous districts.
