Increase testing to combat Covid: Pritam to govt

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh has said that in view of renewed threat of Covid-19, the state government should increase the testing for the disease. Talking to the media persons at the state headquarters of the Congress party here on Wednesday, he said that the problem is that the state government did nothing to increase the capacity of tests for Covid-19. “The dilemma for the Uttarakhand government is that if it tries to increase testing, the backlog of the untested samples increases,’’ he quipped. The PCC president further said that the both union and state governments should ensure that the pace of sample testing is increased for Covid-19 till the vaccine is available. Launching an attack on the Narendra Modi government for being partisan in its action, he said that the PM keeps on harping about wearing masks and observing social distancing but during the recent Bihar elections the caution was thrown to the wind and people attended rallies without masks. He claimed that the government deliberately relaxed the Covid-19 guidelines during the Bihar polls. Singh said that the government owes an answer for this serious lapse. Taking a dig at the administration’s decision to impose a penalty of Rs 2000 on those not wearing masks, the Congress leader said that the penalty is unjustified and too high for the poor. He added that instead of imposing a penalty, the government should increase awareness about the disease and provide resources to the poor.
