The inspector general of police and spokesman of Uttarakhand police Nilesh Bharne expressed disappointment over Ankita Bhandari’s parents’ allegations that the police have not included the facts related to the VIP guest, who is allegedly a senior BJP leader, in the earlier investigation. A video of Ankita’s mother recently went viral on social media in which she was seen demanding the arrest of a senior BJP leader claiming him to be the VIP whose name appeared in the investigation. She also accused chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the police of not acting against the alleged VIP in the case. Talking about these allegations, Bharne said that many serious allegations have been made by Ankita Bhandari’s parents in the media and social media about the alleged VIPs related to the case. He said that a chargesheet was filed in court against the three accused in this murder case after a thorough investigation in the case which is pending in court. “During the investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), detailed statements of all the witnesses, including complainants Virendra Bhandari and Ankita Bhandari’s mother, were recorded. Their statements were also recorded in court during the trial,” Bharne added. He expressed disappointment over making such allegations in the media about the actions of the police department almost 13 months after the charge sheet was filed. He said, “The SIT was led by an experienced and dedicated female officer of the DIG level. If Ankita’s parents have any new evidence related to this case, they are still free to present it before the SIT. The police department will take lawful and prompt action considering all the new facts presented by them. We fully sympathise with Ankita’s parents and assure them again that no stone will be left unturned in getting justice for Ankita.”
