Police issued challans to 231 individuals in Dehradun for failing to verify their tenants and domestic workers and collected fines totalling Rs 23.10 lakh. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that these individuals were issued challan under Section 83 of the Police Act.

This action is part of a broader verification campaign initiated across various police station areas in the city. He said that the police conducted a massive verification drive on Friday morning to identify unverified outsiders, tenants and domestic workers living in the city. During the campaign, police verified the identities of over 850 individuals, focusing particularly on those residing in rented accommodations or working as domestic help.

He informed that the police also brought 75 suspicious individuals to the police station for questioning and physical verification after they failed to produce proper documentation on the spot. Besides this, police also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on 40 individuals under Section 81 of the Police Act for violating other related rules during the campaign. Singh said that the drive aimed to curb criminal activities by keeping a check on unidentified residents in the district. All police station in-charges have been instructed to continue such operations regularly to ensure the safety and security of Dehradun’s residents, the SSP added.
